EMMITSBURG, MD – The Palmieri Center for Entrepreneurship announced today the winner of the “What Defines and Entrepreneur?” contest that took place on Tuesday, April 17, 2018. The reward for winning this contest was $50 worth of gift cards to Carleo’s and Ott’s, two local Emmitsburg restaurants. This contest required participants to compile and submit a video, or find the center’s camera crew, and share their most creative definition of what defines an entrepreneur.
The results of the contest were announced on the center’s Instagram, @palmiericenter. Many of the participants included thought of an entrepreneur as someone who starts up their own business. Others included the idea that an entrepreneur is someone who is a leader and guides others.
Here are some of the most creative responses given by Mount students across campus:
“An entrepreneur is someone who is willing to go out into the world to make their own path.”
“Someone who works to make the market more efficient and make the distribution of resources within the market better.”
“One, successful, two, has the ability to lead and guide others, three, Compassion, four, the strength to deal with diversity and adversity, and five, just having fun.”
With this kind of question to consider, there are no wrong answers. An entrepreneur can mean a wide variety of things. The center is pleased with the variety of responses it received.
Although there were many creative and thought-provoking responses, the winning definition belongs to Jessica DiLeone. “An entrepreneur is someone who takes their creative ideas to create businesses and ideas to help the world.”
“Everybody’s definition was excellent. Everyone who was interviewed really hit it on the spot I am really proud of this campus for getting it.” says Christine Adamow, director of the Entrepreneurship Center. “Jessica really hit it. An entrepreneur is somebody who actually builds a business and takes an idea that solves a problem with the purpose and intention of making a big positive impact on the world.”
About the Palmieri Center for Entrepreneurship
The Palmieri Center for Entrepreneurship was opened during the fall semester of 2017 after a generous donation from Mount alumni Paul Palmieri and Diane Loiello Palmieri in the spring of 2017. The purpose of the center is to provide “skill building, mentorship and real-world experiences vital to the development of creative critical thinking.”
The center offers a variety of events throughout the year that Mount students are encouraged to participate in, especially those who are considering something along the lines of entrepreneurship or becoming an entrepreneur.
The center is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and located behind Archbishop Borders Hall. The intention of the center is to aid students in identifying and developing the skills needed to become an entrepreneur.
